Minority Groups Urge Congressional Action on Broadband Regulation
A broad coalition of minority and community groups have sent a letter to Capitol Hill leadership supporting congressional action to clarify the FCC's regulatory authority over broadband.
The letter argues that the agency's reclassification plans will inject uncertainty into the broadband market and may have a harmful effect on innovation, investment, and job creation. According to the letter, Congressional leaders must:
step in and clarify the scope and direction of the FCC's authority, thereby restoring certainty and clarity to the broadband environment.
The letter's signees include the Hispanic Telecommunication and Technology Partnership, the 100 Black Men of America Inc., and the Organization of Chinese Americans, among others.
The groups join a growing list of organizations, including the Communications Workers of America, NAACP and LULAC that support a legislative approach to protect an open Internet and reform universal service for broadband.
