In Florida, high-speed Internet means high revenues
The digital divide affects more than individuals and families, says Connect Florida, it helps determines whether businesses generate more or less revenue and jobs. In a recent report, the group, which is a subsidiary of Connected Nation, stated categorically:
"Florida businesses with high-speed Internet connections report having median annual revenues $130,000 greater than businesses without broadband."
Surprisingly, one quarter of all registered Florida businesses - 134,000 of them - do not have broadband technology. Interestingly, a similar percentage of individuals - 28 percent - are also without broadband in the state.
Brian Mefford, CEO of Connected Nation noted, noted that high-speed Internet isn't optional for business success:
"In our digital economy, businesses must embrace broadband, and other transformative technologies like it, in order to survive. The Internet is driving products and services to the marketplace in an environment where creativity and innovation are both reinforced and rewarded."
