Last Broadband Stimulus Grants Award $190 Million for State Planning, Outreach Activities
The NTIA's final batch of broadband stimulus grants were given to state and non-profit entities for broadband planning, outreach, and research programs.
Such efforts will facilitate on-going activity in states and local communities to expand broadband build-out and adoption. Planning, outreach, and research efforts involving all community stakeholders hold the most promise to ensure that no family, small business, or community is left behind in the digital age.
The NTIA grants, totaling $190 million, will support state and local task forces to expand broadband access and adoption, state-created efforts to assist small businesses and community institutions in using technology more effectively, research to investigate barriers to broadband adoption, and innovative applications that increase access to government services and information.
The funds will also assist states in updating their broadband maps.
The NTIA's State Broadband Data and Development grant program implements the joint purposes of the Recovery Act and the Broadband Data Improvement Act (BDIA). Speed Matters supported the BDIA as a comprehensive program, led by state entities or non-profit organizations working at their direction, to facilitate the integration of broadband and information technology into state and local economies.
