60 million pay-TV households to cut the cord within 5 years, claims Roku
A total of 60 million television households will cut the cord within 5 years, according to a new report from Roku. If true, the number of households subscribing to streaming services like Netflix and Hulu will surpass traditional pay-TV subscribers for the first time. Roku’s over-the-top digital media players compete with those provided by cable companies. About 2 million Americans cut the cord in 2019 and 3.5 million did so in 2018.
“This report shows there is a huge, new generation of streamers who enjoy live and free TV and are extremely satisfied with the decision to watch TV without cable or satellite,” said Matthew Anderson, Roku chief marketing officer.
