Another phone company jumps on 1 Gbps bandwagon
Cincinnati Bell will officially be offering a 1 Gbps to that city’s customers on September 8, although the company doesn’t provide many details. Just which neighborhoods and exactly when it will be in service are yet to be announced.
On their website, Cincinnati Bell calls the service Fioptics, indicating that’s fiber and probably similar to Verizon FiOS. They also claim that for $89.99 a month (for the first year) you’ll get a connection that’s “20X faster than Time Warner Cable’s fastest Internet speeds for residential customers.” That’s not absolutely true, but if it’s 1 Gbps, that’s still very fast.
