AT&T adds two more major GigaPower markets
Last week, AT&T announced that it was expanding its all-fiber network to two major metropolitan areas: Atlanta and Chicago.
GigaPower boasts download speeds of up to 1 Gbps and is offered to both consumers and small businesses.
AT&T said that in Georgia they will build out the network to the City of Atlanta and the City of Sandy Springs, as well as the suburbs of Decatur and Newnan.
At the same time AT&T said they were targeting the Chicago area as well, although, “Specific locations of availability and pricing for the Chicago market will be announced at a later date.”
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said, “We are working to make Chicago the most wired city in the world, and it is great news that AT&T is bringing its ultra-high speed fiber network to Chicago.”
In addition, “AT&T has committed that upon approval of its proposed acquisition of DIRECTV, the company will expand the AT&T GigaPower network to 2 million locations over and above what the company announced in April.”
