AT&T to SEC: DirecTV purchase would finance fiber build-out
Earlier this week, AT&T said in a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission that the “DirecTV deal would enable it to upgrade 2 million additional locations to ‘Gigapower’ fiber connections, and expand high speed broadband (U-verse) coverage overall to 13 million locations.”
According to the AP, AT&T said in the filing would save $1.6 billion a year by merging with DirecTV. The additional savings would also enable AT&T to save 20 percent on content costs.
