AT&T woos cord-cutters with $35 DirecTV Now streaming service
AT&T is launching an over-the-top streaming service called DirecTV Now this November, the company announced. The service will cost $35 per month, will include 100 channels, and will be viewable on almost any device – including a smartphone, tablet, or laptop – without an annual contract or set-top box.
The DirecTV Now announcement comes days after AT&T said it planned to buy Time Warner, an entertainment company, for $85 billion. The new streaming service – combined with the huge acquisition – is the clearest sign yet of how AT&T intends to attract cord-cutters and cord-nevers, who opt for streaming services like Netflix over traditional video subscriptions, as pay-TV subscriptions continue to decline.
