CenturyLink pushing 1 Gbps business service into southern Utah

In 2014, Louisiana-based telecom CenturyLink began wiring some 16 communities around the West, Midwest and Florida for 1 Gbps residential and business fiber.
Recently, CenturyLink announced that it was extending its 1 Gbps service from Salt Lake City and suburbs to southern Utah – but specifically for businesses. The target communities are: St. George, Cedar City, Hurricane and Washington.
These moves put CenturyLink head-to-head with competitors – primarily cable. According to Fierce Telecom:
“Having this service in hand will enable CenturyLink to battle area CLECs [competitive local exchange carrier] and also cable operators that have mainly focused on serving small to medium businesses (SMBs) with asymmetrical DOCSIS-based solutions. However, Comcast Business is also increasing the availability of their own Gbps-capable fiber service offerings for businesses.
So, at the very least southern Utah businesses will have choice and leverage in high-speed communications
