Congressional Progressive Caucus reveals $100 billion broadband infrastructure plan
The Congressional Progressive Caucus released its bold, jobs-focused infrastructure plan, 21st Century New Deal for Jobs, which “aims to do no less than transform the foundations of America’s economy,” the Caucus said in a press release. The plan includes a total investment of $2 trillion over 10 years, including $100 billion dollars for broadband infrastructure. Here’s how the plan breaks down:
$40 billion over 10 years for $100 annual tax credit for Internet for households with income less than $35,000
$30 billion direct funding and tax incentives for build-out targeted to rural and low-income communities
$20 billion to electric coops for broadband in rural America
$10 billion for fiber in 10 US cities
“We need to invest in our infrastructure so that communities – especially communities of color – are empowered for a 21st century economy,” Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) said. “The CPC infrastructure plan lays out bold, long overdue investments into the American people. Our plan puts people to work rebuilding our crumbling roads and bridges, expanding the green economy, and bringing broadband to communities across the country.”
