Improving Education With Broadband Innovation

Education continues to experiment with innovative uses of broadband. One recent program is the Sustainable Design Award program, developed by the ACE Mentor Program of America (ACE) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Wrote ACE Mentor:

"Earning the Sustainable Design Award will demonstrate that a student is able at a basic level to evaluate green buildings on strategies, elements of sustainable design and construction, and benefits to the environment/occupant/owner. Participation in the Award program will offer ACE students an opportunity for one-on-one, virtual mentoring with recognized experts in green design and construction practices."

"The program uses broadband Internet connections to enable one-on-one mentoring on sustainable design between students across the country and USGBC mentors, who actively apply green design strategies to their work as architects, engineers, and construction managers," wrote Broadband Expanded.

As SDA says, "Because the Award program operates virtually over the web, students enjoy flexibility when and where they complete Award requirements. Likewise, mentors can review students' work and communicate with them on their own schedule."
