ITIF Report: Next-generation broadband networks crucial to boost economy
At an event on March 5, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) - a Speed Matters partner - released a report on the importance of next-generation broadband networks.
ITIF makes the case that "supporting the deployment of faster broadband networks will be crucial to enabling next-generation Web-based applications and services that will play important roles in improving quality of life and boosting economic growth."
The report argues that while providing broadband access to all Americans is important, it is necessary to look to the future and utilize the latest technology while doing so.
ITIF President Robert Atkinson gave opening remarks at the event releasing the report. He countered one of the arguments against next-generation broadband networks:
"People saying that we are okay with where we are [with the U.S.'s Internet speed] is a relatively pessimistic view of the world. It's like saying that we don't need to have any more progress and I think that is fundamentally wrong."
