October, 2011: 184 million online viewers watched 42 billion videos
The online video audience keeps growing in size, and in time spent watching. In October 2011, 184 million Americans spent an average of 21 hours per month viewing videos.
They viewed at least part of some 42 billion videos, an all-time high, says the online firm, comScore Video Metrix. This activity is beginning to generate revenue. While relatively few videos contain ads, “53% of the U.S. population watched video ads in October, at an average of 47 times per month.”
Not surprisingly, the various Google sites, including YouTube, are at the top, but Facebook, which had been number five in September, rose to number two in October.
What is clear is that with the growth of data transmission, our wireline and wireless infrastructure needs constant expansion. Speed Matters strongly supports the continuing build out of our nation’s broadband capacity.
