Schools and telecommuters want 1 Gbps
CenturyLink has found that its 1 Gbps fiber to the premise (FTTP) service is gaining an audience among school districts and telecommuting workers, especially in the tech industry.
In fact, in Utah, CenturyLink is already providing most of the state’s schools with 1 Gbps.
People who telecommute are seeking out locations where the 1 Gig service is available. CenturyLink’s Utah VP Jeremy Ferkin said, “"A lot of [businesses] are actually guiding employees to go to where we have a Gig."
In addition, AT&T is rolling out 1 Gbps FTTH in Cupertino, California, home to Apple’s headquarters campus. In parts of Cupertino, “... qualifying residential and business customers will be able to choose from a number of plans, including single, double and triple-play bundles.”
Already, 1 Gbps FTTH is offered to residents and small businesses in areas of Austin Fort Worth and Dallas, Texas; Kansas City; Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
