Senators introduce bipartisan bill to study broadband impact
Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) introduced a bill that would require the Bureau of Economic Analysis to study the impact of broadband on the economy. The bill, introduced by the two co-chairs of the bipartisan Senate Broadband Caucus, would force a measurement of the economic effects of broadband deployment and adoption, providing additional data on the importance of high-speed Internet to inform lawmakers.
“Broadband is a great equalizing force for creating jobs, leveling the playing field, and increasing opportunity,” Sen. Klobuchar said. “Our bipartisan legislation will help provide us with the reliable, publicly available economic data we need to make informed decisions about expanding broadband, connecting our communities, and keeping us competitive in an increasingly digital world.”
