Study finds all-fiber deployment to 90 percent of US possible within a decade
A study by the Fiber Broadband Association and the consulting firm Cartesian finds that all-fiber deployment to 90 percent of the United States is possible by 2029. The study estimates fiber deployment would reach 50 percent of US households by 2025 and that reaching 90 percent of the US would cost $70 billion.
“We have long known that having access to all-fiber networks is far superior than other technologies in driving economic growth, social interaction, and political engagement,” said Fiber Broadband Association President and CEO Lisa R. Youngers. “Now we know that deploying all-fiber networks to most parts of the country within the next decade is feasible. If we want to close the digital divide, it is essential that we make all-fiber networks a reality for all of America’s communities.”
