Virginia Broadband Roundtable releases toolkit and final report
The Virginia Commonwealth Broadband Roundtable released their final report aiming to help localities around the state to bring affordable broadband to their businesses and citizens.
The Roundtable, which was commissioned in summer of 2007 by Governor Tim Kaine, is co-chaired by former Governor Mark Warner. Speed Matters' own Debbie Goldman also sits on the task force.
Accompanying the report (you can find the full report here) is an online "toolkit" that provides Virginia towns and cities the tools they need to bring affordable high speed Internet within their borders. According to a letter from the Roundtable to Gov. Kaine, the toolkit contains:
"...Information on broadband-dependent applications, the various broadband technologies available and the characteristics of each, and case studies from localities across the Commonwealth that have successfully implemented broadband deployment in their communities."
In addition to the toolkit, the group also is in the processing of producing a map with address-level availability of broadband across the Commonwealth.
While the report is complete, the Broadband Roundtable isn't going to disappear. It plans to market the toolkit across the state.
