Bringing More of the World to the Blind

The advances made through audio technology can improve opportunities for individuals who are blind. Text can be converted to audio, and made completely navigable for a blind person. This information can either be downloaded, or viewed in real time over a broadband connection, rather than waiting for the information to be presented on CD-ROM or other conventional devices.

This allows access to many types of printed materials, including textbooks, newspapers, government reports, etc. Broadband is not only important for transmission of video; audio also requires large amounts of bandwidth, and the capacity of broadband is needed to ensure that people who are blind can utilize information as they choose.

Accessibility is one of the most inspiring developments in broadband. This technology can overcome many of the barriers that people with disabilities have faced for years.
