Computers 4 Kids Teaches High School Students to Refurbish Computers, Donates Them to Local Families
ConnectKentucky's Computers 4 Kids program will donate 150 refurbished computers to Greenup County families, according to Connected Nation.
High School students in Greenup County, Kentucky will get hands-on IT training when they refurbish the school system’s outdated computers. The hardware will then be given to local families to improve their children’s education.
Kentucky State Representative Tanya Pullin, who helped pull the program together, believes the Computers 4 Kids is:
"The perfect example of private and public spheres collaborating to benefit our children," said Rep. Pullin. "Education doesn’t begin and end during the school day, and this will help 150 families give their children a boost toward a better life. This is an investment in the future of all our citizens. In that sense, it's one of the smarter economic development projects we can champion, and I am pleased to play a role in it."
By supplying disadvantaged families with computers, Computers 4 Kids is engaging more parents and children in their education. The digital divide has disproportionately affected children in low-income areas, and as a result their education is suffering.
