Editorial Highlights Problems With US High Speed Internet Service

The San Jose Mercury News hits the nail on the head with this week’s editorial on the state of high speed internet access in the US.

When it comes to reasonably priced, high-speed Internet service, the United States is an embarrassment. Despite years of promises from politicians and technology titans, the U.S. continues to lag far behind our global competitors.

The editorial goes on to take the FCC and the internet service providers to task for everything from the definition of "broadband service" to the staggering cost of true high speed internet options to American consumers.

The government needs to step in, too. As we urged in December, the U.S. needs a national strategy to get affordable broadband to every man, woman and child by the end of the decade.

As this editorial makes clear, speed does matter, in Silicon Valley and everywhere else in the U.S.
