Making sure the candidates get the message
Last week in Iowa, members of the CWA Speed Matters team got a chance to get up close and personal with John Edwards and Barak Obama.
During a campaign stop in Fayette, Iowa, retiree Jake Blitsch of CWA Local 7108 asked Edwards if he was on board with the Speed Matters campaign. Edwards replied, "Yes, definitely."
And prior to a town meeting at the Waterloo, Iowa Boys and Girls club, Obama met with seventeen CWA members and retirees to talk about health care, the Employee Free Choice Act, jobs, the War -- and high-speed Internet for all. Obama signed a Speed Matters banner, and when he addressed the full audience later in the day made his support clear,
"I want to tell you how important high-speed broadband is for America...for improving health care, education, and creating good jobs. We must have a national policy to ensure affordable, high-speed Internet to every home and business in America."
CWA members and retirees in Iowa have been meeting with presidential candidates since February. Now that things are really heating up, expect to hear more about how CWA is putting the need for high speed Internet buildout front and center in Iowa.
