Congress Introduces $1 Billion Digital Literacy Legislation

The Achievement Through Technology and Innovation Act (ATTAIN Act) was recently introduced in the U.S. Senate in order to improve digital literacy among children and teachers.

The $1 billion bill would support efforts to teach children computer skills, train teachers in state-of-the-art technology, and facilitate the purchase of educational technology for schools.

Introduced by Sens. Jeff Bingaman, Patty Murray, and Richard Blumenthal — the ATTAIN Act was met with praise from a coalition of education and ed-tech organizations:

"The ATTAIN Act recognizes that technology literacy is an essential skill our children need to be college and career ready and prepared to navigate and succeed in the competitive 21st-century environment."

The Communications Workers of America supports digital literacy in schools and believes children who learn technological skills can not only improve their own lives, but also pass their knowledge on to their family, friends, and community.
