Sierra Club Expresses Optimism for AT&T/T-Mobile Merger
In a letter to members of Congress, the FCC, and the Department of Justice, the Sierra Club, one of the oldest grassroots environmental organizations in the country, expressed support for increased broadband deployment under a post-merger AT&T.
In the letter, Michael Brune, Executive Director of the Sierra Club, wrote:
"On behalf of the Sierra Club's more than 1.3 million members and supporters, we add our voice to that of our brothers and sisters in the labor movement to express optimism about the potential expansion of broadband that the proposed merger of AT&T and T-Mobile provides."
Broadband deployment holds promise for reducing carbon emissions and promoting energy efficient technologies that reduce waste. Creating a cleaner communications infrastructure is in line with the Sierra Clubs green future plans. With its letter, the Sierra Club — a Speed Matters partner — joins dozens of other labor, technology and minority organizations who have weighed in on the side of the merger.
