Wisconsin Set to Deploy Broadband Stimulus Funding
Wisconsin will soon begin rolling out fiber optic broadband connections to hundreds of schools and libraries across the state. Over 390 law enforcement agencies, 300 fire departments, and 119 hospitals could also potentially connect to the fiber network.
According to Thad Nation, Executive Director of Wired Wisconsin,
“[This] is one of the best ways to foster economic development, support additional educational opportunities, and increase connections between citizens across the state, and we encourage the Joint Finance Committee to approve this crucial funding.”
Wisconsin's program works towards one of the provisions in the National Broadband Plan — to provide a gigabyte Internet connection to anchor institutions (such as libraries, schools, community centers) throughout the country.
