Percentage of Ohioans subscribing to broadband increases seven percent from 2009

A new report from Connect Ohio — an affiliate of Speed Matters partner Connected Nation — showed that 62 percent of the state's residents subscribe to a broadband Internet connection. That is an increase over 2009, when the number was only 55 percent.

Connect Ohio Executive Director Tom Fritz said:

"We're pleased by the increases in technology and broadband adoption numbers across the state, but we're concerned that 1.6 million adults across the state still don't have access to a home computer."

Ohio still has a digital divide as 72 percent of suburban residents have a high-speed connection, compared to only 54 percent of those in rural areas.

An additional report — commissioned by Connected Nation — showed that Ohio could see an increase of $5.1 billion in the state's economy by accelerating broadband availability.
