PBS and broadband Internet transforming education together
The Public Broadcasting System is looking to transform the delivery of Kindergarten through 12th grade education using broadband technology.
Combining broadband-delivered applications with preexisting content from the television station, Education Digital Content Asset Repository (EDCAR) will provide a comprehensive online digital library for teachers.
Teachers will be able to choose any clip, image, or interactive component and plug it into a lesson, while the application simultaneously keeps logs of a teacher's favorite items.
Also included are social-networking features for educators to discuss teaching methods and additional applications available for download.
EDCAR was highlighted as a supporting example in Information Technology and Innovation Foundation's report "The Need for Speed: The Importance of Next-Generation Broadband Networks."
