Comcast, Charter deepen mobile partnership

Comcast and Charter are partnering to develop Xfinity and Spectrum  mobile software, the companies announced. The software will provide backend systems that support both Xfinity Mobile and Spectrum Mobile. The companies will continue to operate their own separate mobile brands.

Comcast’s Xfinity Mobile relies on Comcast’s hot-spots and Verizon Wireless’s network. It ended the fourth quarter of 2017 with 380,000 subscribers. Charter also leases wireless capacity from Verizon Wireless. Comcast and Charter announced last year their partnership to develop wireless platforms. According to filings at the Securities and Exchange Commission, the partnership will consist of “investments, acquisitions, mergers, partnerships, joint ventures or similar transactions” valued at $200 million.
