T-Mobile, Sprint file public interest statement at the FCC
T-Mobile and Sprint filed a 678-page public interest statement at the FCC. The merger is officially before the Commission, although a comment cycle has not yet been set. The document claims the merged company will spend $40 billion to operate a “robust, nationwide world-class 5G network.”
“It is full of interesting data,” telecom industry analyst Craig Moffett today an industry publication. “But unfortunately, it’s not very rich with new arguments. It’s hard to find anything in the document that will likely persuade anyone to change the opinion they’ve already formed.”
T-Mobile and Sprint have explored merger before, but earlier discussions never panned out after the FCC and DOJ made clear they would oppose any combination of the number 3 and number 4 wireless companies.
The Senate antitrust subcommittee will hold a hearing on the proposed merger on June 27.
