Pew: high-speed Internet “a major problem” for 24 percent of rural adults

One in four rural Americans say access to high-speed Internet is “a major problem,” according to a new Pew study. An additional third consider it a “problem,” meaning almost 60 percent of rural Americans believe access to broadband is a problem in their area.

These survey results reiterate the most recent broadband deployment data from the FCC -- 19 million rural Americans lack broadband access. The Commission must do more -- like raising its broadband speed benchmark -- to encourage high-speed Internet buildout to rural communities.
