NYPSC settlement requires Charter buildout
The New York State Public Service Commission (NYPSC) approved a settlement with Charter Communications (whose brand name is Spectrum) to resolve Charter’s failure to meet its Time Warner merger commitments made in 2016. Under the terms of the settlement, Charter will expand its network to provide high-speed broadband service to 145,000 residences and businesses in Upstate New York and will pay an additional $12 million to expand broadband service to additional premises.
In July 2018, the NYPSC voted to revoke its approval of Charter's 2016 purchase of Time Warner Cable as Charter did not meet interim deadlines for broadband expansion. The NYPSC did not enforce the revocation while negotiating this settlement.
