CenturyLink to expand fiber buildout to 400,000 locations in 2020
In 2020, CenturyLink plans to expand its fiber network to 400,000 homes and small businesses in Denver, Omaha, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, Spokane, and Springfield, MO. CenturyLink's fiber-to-the-home service is capable of providing symmetrical speeds of up to 940 Mbps. Last year, CenturyLink added about 300,000 homes and small businesses through its gigabit fiber service.
CenturyLink’s fiber strategy is a bright spot, as the company struggles with the loss of subscribers in its traditional copper lines. In the latest quarter, CenturyLink reported a loss of 11,000 broadband subscribers. However, for those receiving speeds of 100 Mbps and above, it added 60,000 subscribers.
