New York awards $209 million in public funding for broadband
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced $209.7 million in awarded funding to provide last-mile buildout to more than 122,000 residences, businesses, and community members across the state. Round III of NY State’s broadband investment program, which was first launched in 2015, will encourage private investment to help close the digital divide in the state. New York State awarded Verizon $70.7 million worth of funding, Frontier $9.7 million, Windstream $2.7 million, and Fairpoint $3.2 million.
"Access to high-speed internet is critical as New York works to deliver the resources needed for industries to thrive and businesses to remain competitive in the 21st century global economy," Governor Cuomo said. "Projects achieved through the New NY Broadband Program are a major step forward in creating the most robust broadband infrastructure network in the nation, while ensuring that reliable, high-speed internet is available to all New Yorkers."
