Time Warner aims to avoid merger scrutiny by selling Atlanta TV station

Time Warner is selling WPCH, an Atlanta TV broadcast station, for $70 million. The sale is a move to avoid FCC scrutiny during the AT&T-Time Warner deal, since many believe the transfer of an FCC broadcast license is the only regulatory hook the agency has to review the deal. The merger is still subject to review by the Department of Justice.

AT&T reached an agreement to buy Time Warner for $85.4 billion. Including debt, the value grows to $108.7 billion. The deal combines the nation’s largest pay-TV provider and second largest wireless carrier with the largest entertainment company.
