House passes bill to help veterans access broadband
The US House of Representatives passed HR 6394, the Improving Broadband Access for Veterans Act of 2016, a bill that directs the FCC to study and report to Congress the availability of broadband access to veterans. High-speed Internet is key to participation in the modern economy and helps veterans, including those in rural areas, find work, access healthcare, and stay connected with friends and family. If the bill passes in the Senate and is signed by President Trump, the FCC will have less than a year to study veterans’ broadband access, compile a report, release the report for public comment, and submit the report to Congress with recommendations to promote access.
