Connecticut approves Frontier purchase of AT&T wireline operations in state
This month, the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority approved the Frontier Communications' $2 billion purchase of AT&T’s Connecticut wireline operations, but included several conditions. These include: a three-year rate freeze for phone and broadband services, required investments in infrastructure and certain philanthropic giving.
In late 2013, Frontier Communications began a $2 billion purchase of AT&T’s Connecticut wireline operations. The move would transfer, according to the Hartford Courant, “about 2,600 new employees, 900,000 wired telephone connections, 415,000 internet connections and 190,000 video subscribers – operations that have an estimated $1.25 billion in revenue.”
Bill Henderson is president of CWA Local 1298, whose members would change employers in the deal. He said:
“From the very beginning, Frontier has been fair and upfront with the CWA and its leadership, which led to a labor agreement that has substantial benefits for both our members and the Company.
“Our members work hard every day, and share completely Frontier’s goal of putting the customer first. We look forward to introducing residential and business customers to Frontier's local engagement plan and great customer service. We welcome the opportunity to partner with Frontier to provide extraordinary service to our customers and neighbors.”
