Consumer interest groups urges the FCC to reject Vonage's 2012 waiver request
AARP, Common Cause, and the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners are calling on the FCC to reject Vonage's waiver request of telephone-number rules, citing concern that allowing the assignment of numbers to noncarriers would trigger a "Race to the Bottom" in the communication market.
The group's letter noted that Vonage's request would allow the company to sidestep "important consumer protection rules".
