Broadband Helps Put Rural Businesses on the Map
Many small and medium-sized rural businesses are thriving thanks to their adoption of broadband technology. Despite being geographically isolated from other more populous areas, the Internet allows businesses to market products and services from virtually any location in the United States.
At the Rural Telecon 2011 summit, organizations explored the trends responsible for bringing connectivity to rural communities, and discussed the methods to incent broadband expansion. For rural entrepreneurs, high-speed Internet is a critical lifeline, keeping talented youth and business professionals from leaving for greener pastures, and brining the innovation of small-town America to the rest of the nation.
To achieve connectivity across the country, we need to ensure that networks continue to expand coverage and speeds when the broadband demands of business owners grow.
Economic innovation is not limited to populated areas, and the reasons for delayed broadband adoption in some rural areas is ultimately due to slow build-out rather than a reluctance to adopt the technology.
