CenturyLink plans gigabit service in six more states

CenturyLinkannounced plans to expand its gigabit Internet service in parts of six more states, aiming to provide the service to more than 700,000 households by the end of 2015. The service provides Internet speeds up to 1 Gbps and will be available to residential and small business customers in parts of Arizona, Idaho, Iowa, New Mexico, North Carolina, and South Dakota.

“We said from the very beginning that we weren’t going to just talk about bringing gigabit speeds to our customers, but that we were going to deliver these speeds now. That’s exactly what we’ve done,” said Shirish Lal, CenturyLink chief marketing officer, inthe company’s announcement.

This announcement is the latest in CenturyLink’s recent expansion. Speed Mattersreported in March that the company planned to expand its gigabit fiber service in a dozen new cities, including residential services in Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City, Denver, Minneapolis, Columbia and Jefferson City in Missouri, and business services in Spokane, Sioux Falls, Colorado Springs, Albuquerque, Phoenix and Tucson. CenturyLink now offers gigabit service to 600,000 customers in 16 markets.
