CWA applauds the confirmation of Anna Gomez to the FCC

CWA released a statement on September 7 applauding the confirmation of Anna Gomez to the FCC. “At long last, at this critical time for the US telecommunications and media industries, we have a full roster of FCC commissioners,” said CWA President Claude Cummings Jr. “Anna Gomez is a dedicated public servant who is highly qualified to serve on the FCC. We are looking forward to working with her to realize the potential of the bipartisan infrastructure bill to bring affordable internet service to all Americans and to reverse the decline of local news that threatens the foundations of our democracy.“
For over two years, industry lobbyists and their Republican allies obstructed and delayed President Biden’s efforts to fill the vacant FCC seat. Unless the Senate acts quickly to confirm Commissioner Geoffrey Starks before his term expires at the end of the year, we will once again be without a full roster of FCC commissioners. Commissioner Starks has been a leader in the fight against the digital divide, which is one of the most important issues on the FCC’s agenda.
