Democratic lawmakers introduce legislation to restore net neutrality protections

Democratic lawmakers have introduced legislation to restore net neutrality protections. Save the Internet Act reinstates the 2015 Open Internet Order’s net neutrality protections by reversing the Pai FCC’s 2017 decision to repeal those protections. The legislation bans blocking, throttling, and paid prioritization by Internet service providers. It also gives the FCC the power to prohibit unjust, unreasonable, and discriminatory practices.

“When we talk about a free and open internet, we mean an internet that is free from corporate control and open to anyone to communicate, innovate and connect. Net neutrality ensures that when you pay your monthly bill to your internet service provider, you can able to access all content on the web at the same speed as your neighbor or big corporations.” said Senator Ed Markey. “The Save the Internet Act is clear and simple: overturn the Trump FCC’s wrongheaded decision and restore strong net neutrality protections.”

The Communications Workers of America supports three bright-line, common sense Open Internet rules – no blocking, no throttling, and no favorable treatment of some websites and applications over others – to protect a free and open Internet.
