Google accused of underpaying female workers

In April, the Department of Justice accused Google of “systemic compensation disparities,” claiming that the Silicon Valley giant underpays its female workers across all positions. The agency demanded Google submit salary records for examination.

But Google has refused. The company, whose parent company is worth more than $600 billion, said it would not comply with the Department of Labor’s request because it would be too financially burdensome. The company-estimated cost? About $100,000.

The agency’s attorney recognized the absurdity of this argument, saying “Google would be able to absorb the cost as easy as a dry kitchen sponge could absorb a single drop of water.”
