Outage at CenturyLink data center leads to drop in global Internet traffic
A seven-hour long technical outage at a CenturyLink data center caused by a firewall software misconfiguration resulted in a 3.5 percent drop in the global Internet traffic including at Reddit, Hulu, and Amazon Web Services. The outage forced CenturyLink to take the rare step of asking all Tier 1 ISPs to de-peer from its network so that it can reset its equipment.
