Speaker Pelosi: America Needs to Be Number One in Internet Access
The new Speaker of the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, discussed the importance of high-speed Internet deployment at the Communications Workers of America’s spring conference.
Speaking on March 27, Speaker Pelosi pledged that she and her fellow House members would focus on “ensuring that America has the world’s most advanced telecommunications infrastructure.”
Indeed, improving Internet access and speed is a major part of Pelosi’s Innovation Agenda, as we’ve discussed before.
The Speaker praised the Speed Matters plan as “very significant to the future of our country,” and pledged public investment and goals for wider Internet access. She also noted that it’s crucial to close the digital divide, and provide affordable access to the underserved.
Speaker Pelosi said that all Americans should be a “keystroke or mouse-click away from the jobs and opportunities that broadband can create and support.”
We agree, and we look forward to seeing concrete results from the proposals in the Innovation Agenda.
