Internet access key to libraries resurgence

Five years ago, experts thought that the growth of the Internet would make libraries obsolete. However, instead of killing off libraries, the Internet has led to larger circulations and more regular patrons at many public libraries. According to a Gannett News Service analysis of local library systems, attendance at libraries has increased 10 percent and circulation has increased nine percent in a five year time period from 2001-02 to 2005-06.

CWA: Comcast Ruling Shows Effectiveness of FCC Broadband Principles

Comcast has finally been forced by the FCC to stop interfering with customers' use of peer-to-peer file sharing programs. By secretly and deliberately blocking transmission of legal peer-to-peer traffic, and without letting customers know it was doing this, Comcast interfered with consumers' rights to access the lawful content of their choice and to run the applications of their choice over the Internet. Strong enforcement will ensure that network operators refrain from similar violations, and the FCC has demonstrated that it will act promptly to address any actions violating consumers' rights regarding this broadband policy.
