CenturyLink testing OTT streaming TV service
CenturyLink is testing a new over-the-top streaming TV service, the company announced, with plans to launch the product in four markets in the second quarter of 2017 and the rest of its footprint by the end of the year. The streaming service is expected to replace Prism TV, CenturyLink’s current pay-TV package, which has faced challenges compiling competitive-priced channel packages.
The over-the-top service, which does not yet have a published price point, is intended to attract cord-cutters and cord-nevers, or those who have never subscribed to a traditional pay-TV service. CenturyLink will be the second major telco to develop its own streaming service after AT&T announced its $35 per month plan late last year.
